The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on Thursday 4 May 2023, Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3. The particulars being that he failed to ride TRIVIAL MATTER out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards and prejudiced his chances of obtaining fourth place in Race 6 over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse on 11 April 2023.
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on 20 April 2023, Jockey Sandile Mbhele was charged with a contravention of Rule 77.1.1 read with Rule 77.2.7. The particulars being that a urine sample taken from him at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse on 30 October 2022, disclosed upon analysis the presence of Benzoylecgonine, a known metabolite of Cocaine, which is a banned substance in terms of the Rules.
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at the Vaal Racecourse on 30 March 2023, Jockey D De Gouveia was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.2. The particulars being that he rode GREGOR MACGREGOR in an unprofessional manner in Race 7 at Turffontein Racecourse on 21 March 2023, by failing to take all reasonable measures to ensure that he was sufficiently prepared for the start whilst in the stalls and under Starter’s orders, which led to him being unseated when the start was effected.
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on 28 March 2023, Jockey G Lerena was charged with two contraventions of Rule 62.2.7: -
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on 26 March 2023, Jockey K de Melo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7. The particulars being that whilst riding MEET AT THE GEORGE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to WOODLAND RETREAT (S Moodley) in the concluding stages of Race 4 at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on Sunday, 12 March 2023.
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Inquiry before Adv K Lapham-Fourie and Ms B Loonat was held in Johannesburg. The Inquiry commenced on Tuesday, 14 March 2023, and was finalised today.
The Inquiry was held into an incident that occurred between Jockeys B Jacobson and M Yeni in the Jockeys’ Room at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 13 February 2023.
The parties have agreed to settle the issues arising out of the incident and the Inquiry on the basis as set out below.

The particulars being that whilst riding SLIM JANNIE, he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards and prejudiced his chances of obtaining 2nd place in Race 6 at Hollywoodbets Scottsville Racecourse on Wednesday, 1 February 2023.
The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Port Elizabeth on Friday, 3 February 2023, Jockey S Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3. The particulars being that whilst riding GREAT MELODY, he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards and prejudiced his chances of obtaining fourth place in Race 9 over 1200m at Fairview Racecourse on Friday,16 September 2022.
