The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on 16 March 2022, Jockey Sean Veale was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 read with Guideline (m) on the use of the crop.  The particulars being that he hit WORD FOR WORD more than 12 times with his crop in Race 2 at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 7 March 2022. 


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on 25 February 2022, Jockey Athandiwe Mgudlwa was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that whilst riding REEF BOUND, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to DEATH BLOW (*R Venniker) at the 1100m in Race 2 at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 26 January 2022.  


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on 31 January 2022, Jockey Anton Marcus was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to UNIVERSAL and TRIP OF FORTUNE when he shifted outwards when insufficiently clear, leaving the 400m in Race 7, the Cape Guineas (Grade 1) at Kenilworth Racecourse on 18 December 2021. 


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in the Stipendiary Stewards’ Boardroom at the Vaal Racecourse on 27 January 2022, Jockey Calvin Habib was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of GOODTIME GUY, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners when he shifted out at the 100m in Race 8 at Turffontein Racecourse on 22 January 2022.  


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on 26 January 2022, Trainer J H Borman was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.25.  The particulars being that he conducted himself in an improper manner by using foul language when being screened at the Covid-19 Vaccination Control Site at Turffontein Racecourse on 27 November 2021. 

Mr Borman pleaded guilty to the charge.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Appeal was heard at its offices in Johannesburg on 25 January 2022. 

Background  

Jockey Gareth Wright was charged with a contravention of Rule 21.11, read with Rule 66.4.  The particulars being that as the Rider of GUY FOX in Race 4, run at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 13 October 2021, he failed to ensure that this gelding carried the correct weight during the running of the race, by weighing in at more than 0.5kg below the weight at which he was declared out at.  This resulted in GUY FOX, which crossed the finishing line first, being disqualified following an objection by the Clerk of Scales being upheld. 


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 12 January 2022, Jockey Tristan Godden was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of TIDE IS HIGH, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to ZURI’S STAR (K de Melo) at the 1200m, in Race 2 at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 5 January 2022.  


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 9 January 2022, Jockey Athandiwe Mgudlwa was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3.  The particulars being that he failed to ride BLUE SAILS out to the end of Race 8 at Hollywoodbets Scottsville Racecourse on 8 December 2021, to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards, thereby prejudicing his chances of obtaining 3rd position.  


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 3 January 2022, Jockey S’manga Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3.  The particulars being that he failed to ride JET MIRAGE out to the end of Race 8 at Fairview Racecourse on 19 November 2021, to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards and prejudiced his chances of obtaining 4th place.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 6 December 2021, Jockey Gareth Wright was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that whilst riding HAMPTON COURT, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners in the concluding stages of Race 8 at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 21 November 2021.
