WINTER CLOUD has seen her rating increased from 111 to 114 after winning the Grade 3 Champagne Stakes over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday. The Handicappers were of the view that second placed OCTOBER MORN made for the most suitable line horse and her rating remains unchanged on 115.
World Sports Betting Sledgehammer (Listed)
NARINA TROGON had his rating increased to 100 from 97 after winning the slowly run Listed World Sports Betting Sledgehammer over 1750m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday. The Handicappers were of the view that second placed IMILENZEYOKUDUMA made for the most suitable line horse here and he remained unchanged on a mark of 105.
World Pool Premier’s Champions Challenge (Grade 1)
ROYAL VICTORY has had his rating increased from 119 to 125 after coming from off the pace to win the World Pool Premier's Champions Challenge (Grade 1) over 2000m at the Turffontein Standside Track on Saturday. The Handicappers were of the view that 3rd placed ARAGOSTA made for the most suitable line horse and as such his rating remains unchanged on 118.
The National Horseracing Authority confirms a Prohibited Substance finding which is aligned with its decision to publish the status of all Prohibited Substance matters from the commencement of the new Racing Season.
Byerley Turk (Grade 3)
MID WINTER WIND has had his rating raised from 96 to 114 following his emphatic win in the Byerley Turk (Grade 3) over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greville on Sunday. Here it was the ever consistent second placed, GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE, who was used to rate this race and as such, his rating remains unchanged on 111.
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that it has imposed an interim suspension on Jockey Sandile Khathi in terms of Rule 91.2. This follows Jockey Khathi being substituted on his carded riding engagements prior to the commencement of the Fairview race meeting on Friday, 22 March 2024 in terms of the provisions of Rule 4.2.18.
Kings Cup (Listed)
NARINA TROGON has had his rating increased to 97 from 91 following his comfortable win in the Listed Kings Cup at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday. The Handicappers believed that third placed, IMILENZEYOKUDUDUMA, made for the most suitable line horse and as such, his rating remains unchanged on 105. In rating the race this way, second placed CELESTIAL CITY also runs to his rating of 92, effectively making him a line horse as well.
Betway Sycamore Sprint (Grade 3)
ONE FELL SWOOP has had her rating adjusted to 104 from 99 after winning the Grade 3 Betway Sycamore Sprint over 1160m at the Turffontein Standside Track on Saturday. The Handicappers were of the opinion that 4th placed IN THE BEGINNING made for the most suitable line horse here and her rating remain unchanged on 94.
TAB Hawwaam Stakes (Listed)
MARAUDING HORDE had his rating increased to 89 from 83 after impressively winning the Listed TAB Hawwaam Stakes over 2000m on Saturday 9 March at the Turffontein Standside track. It was 2nd placed GEORGE HANDEL, who was used as the line horse in this race and his rating remains unchanged on 93.
MARAUDING HORDE’S rating does not reflect the merit of his win here due to the specific race conditions that prohibit the Handicappers from increasing the winner by more than 6 points. Consequently, MARAUDING HORDE was capped to a rating of 89 despite achieving a considerably higher performance figure in this race.
Two more runners received upward adjustments in their ratings. 3rd placed ATARIME was adjusted to 83 from 80 and 4th placed TAXHAVEN goes up to 80 from 77.
It is worth noting, that the specific conditions of this race do not allow for a more than a maximum of 3 points for the placed runners. As a result, ATARIME and TAXHAVEN had to be capped to the respective aforementioned ratings even though they run to higher figures.
EIFFEL TOWER was the only runner to receive a rating’s drop in this race and is down slightly to 94 from 95.
Mrs Marcelle Peter had laid criminal charges in November 2023 against Mr Riaan Janse Van Rensburg, a Senior Special Investigating Officer in the employ of The National Horseracing Authority, from events that took place at Mr Anthony Peter’s stables at Turffontein Racecourse on the day of the Summer Cup on 25 November 2023.
