Durbanville Cup (Listed) 

THEFUTUREISBRIGHT has had his merit rating increased from 95 to 99 following his success in the Listed Durbanville Cup over 2400m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Tuesday 7 March 2023. The Handicappers took the view that 4th placed SILVER HOST and 5th placed HANS SOLO made for suitable line horses. In rating the race this way 7th placed SENSO UNICO also runs to his rating making him a line horse as well. Accordingly, their ratings remain unchanged on 113, 104 and 111 respectively. 


  • WSB SA Classic (Grade 1) 

ANFIELDS ROCKET has had his merit rating elevated from 107 to 118 following his success in the Grade 1 WSB SA Classic for three-year-olds over 1800m on the Turffontein standside track on Saturday 4 March.  The Handicappers were of the unanimous view that 4th placed EYE OF THE PROPHET made for the best line horse here, which leaves him unchanged on a mark of 113.  In rating the race this way. 5th finisher ROYAL VICTORY runs to his mark of 112, which therefore remains unchanged and which effectively makes him a line horse as well.


  • SplashOut Cape Derby (Grade 1) 

SEE IT AGAIN has had his merit rating raised from 104 to 124 following his triumph in the Grade 1 SplashOut Cape Derby over 2000m on the summer course at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday 25 February.  The Handicappers took the view that 4th placed AT MY COMMAND made for the most suitable line horse here, which leaves him unchanged on a mark of 114.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that Jockeys Muzi Yeni and Billy Jacobson have been placed on an immediate interim suspension in terms of the provisions of Rule 91.2. This follows an incident that occurred at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on Monday, 13 February 2023, and subsequent information that has been provided to the NHA. Consequently, the Chief Executive and Racing Control Executive consider that this action is necessary as in their opinion, the continued participation in races of Messrs Yeni and Jacobson may pose an unacceptable risk of prejudicing the reputation, interests, integrity, safety and welfare of racing and its participants.


  • WSB Gauteng Guineas (Grade 2) 

EYE OF THE PROPHET has had his merit rating raised from 93 to 113 following his victory in the Grade 2 WSB Gauteng Guineas over 1600m on the standside track at Turffontein on Saturday 4 February.  The Handicappers were of the view that 4th finisher JIMMY DON made for the most suitable line horse, leaving him unchanged on a mark of 105.

  • WSB Cape Town Met (Grade 1)

JET DARK remains unchanged on a rating of 130 after winning the Grade 1 WSB Cape Town Met on WFA terms over 2000m on the summer course at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday 28 January.  The Handicappers took the view that GOLDEN DUCAT made for the most suitable line horse, which leaves him unchanged on a mark of 120.  In assessing the race this way JET DARK only runs to a rating of 126, hence his unchanged mark.

There were ratings increases also for 3rd placed POMP AND POWER, who was picked up from 114 to 124, for 4th finisher NEXUS, who goes up to 122 from 114, for COUSIN CASEY, who goes up from 115 to 122, for WATERBERRY LANE, who was raised from 116 to 118, and lastly for WARRIOR, who finished 0.10 of a length behind WATERBERRY LANE and who accordingly goes up from 112 to 117.

Four horses were given a rating’s drop.  DO IT AGAIN is down from 126 to 124, RAIN IN HOLLAND drops from 116 to 114, UNIVERSAL also drops from 116 to 114, and lastly LINEBACKER goes from 122 to 120. 


  • Politician Stakes (Grade 3)

ROCKPOOL has had his merit rating raised from 88 to 101 after winning the Grade 3 Politician Stakes for three-year-olds over 1800m on the summer course at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.  The Handicappers were unanimous in their view that 4th placed GRINKOV made for the most suitable line horse, leaving him unchanged on a mark of 102.

There were also ratings increases for 2nd placed WITHOUT QUESTION, who goes up from 88 to 99, and for 5th finisher NARINA TROGON, who was raised from 85 to 87 to make him higher than the 86-rated 7th placed BLACKBERRY MALT.

There were drops for two horses.  FAMOUS AND RICH is down from 96 to 93, while DOWSER drops from 84 to 83. 


  •  Lady’s Bracelet (Listed) 

AND WE DANCED has had her merit rating raised from 99 to 103 following her success in the Listed Lady’s Bracelet for fillies and mares over 1600m on the turf course at Fairview on Friday 13 January.  The Handicappers were of the view that runner-up SANTA THERESE made for the ideal line horse, leaving her unchanged on a mark of 103.
