HANDICAPPING RATINGS UPDATE

TopBet Spring Spree Stakes (Handicap) (Listed)

TEAM GOLD has had his merit rating raised from 98 to 103 following his success in the Listed TopBet Spring Spree Stakes over 1200m on the Turffontein inside track on Saturday, 3 September.  The Handicappers were of the opinion that 3rd finisher VAL D’ ORCIA made for the most suitable line horse, which leaves him unchanged on a mark of 111.

The winner aside, the only other ratings increase was for runner-up SHEELA, who was raised from 107 to 111.

Two horses were given a rating’s drop. MIND READER is down from 101 to 100, while ULTRA MAGNUS was cut from 112 to 110.

Jockey Club Stakes (Listed)

SANTA THERESE remains unchanged on a mark of 103 after capturing the Listed Jockey Club Stakes for fillies and mares over 2000m on the turf course at Fairview on Friday 2 September.  In fact, it was SANTA THERESE herself - winner of this race also in 2021 - who was used as the line horse, which explains her unaltered rating.

Runner-up FIRST STREET was raised from 96 to 99, 3rd finisher FLOWER OF SAIGON is up from 90 to 99, while 5th finisher DUPLICITY was raised from 85 to 87.

There were no other ratings increases, but three horses were given a drop.  PRINCESS KALISI is down from 91 to 90, COLORADO SPRINGS was dropped to 90 from 93, and lastly CALANDRA is down from 89 to 87.
