Dear Breeder

Please note that the deadline for the 2024 annual registrations for the breeder, mare, and stallion registrations is 31 July 2024. However, the Stud Book Committee has approved a 3-month grace period, extending the deadline to 31 October 2024, to allow breeders more time to complete their registrations. Thereafter late registrations may incur penalties.

The deadline for 2023 foal registrations has also been extended to 31 October 2024. Late registrations for foals born in 2022 and earlier will be subject to penalties. Breeders are encouraged to finalize their foal registrations by 31 July.

Stallion Owners are required to submit a list of all mares covered by each stallion by no later than the 15th of the month immediately following the month which the covering took place.

All Breeders are required to submit a stud book return providing details of the produce, namely the colour, sex and date of birth within 30 days of birth, day 1 being date of birth. Twins must be indicated. In the event of NO LIVE PRODUCE the official Return must still be completed indicating whether the Mare was Barren, Aborted early, or Slipped, or that produce was born dead or has died since birth by 15 January proceeding the breeding season via the BREEDERS ONLINE PLATFORM.

Breeders are reminded of the following registration requirements:

• Annual breeder registrations: Must be completed annually for each year the breeder is active.
• Mare registrations: Mares should be registered for both the year of foaling and the year of covering.
• Initial mare registrations: All mares leaving racing and transferring to stud must be registered with the stud within 21 days of transfer.
• Stallion registrations – Stallions should be registered for the year of covering. The registration fees are charged based on the number of mares covered.
• Foal registrations: All fees (breeder, mare, and foal registration fees) must be paid before foal registrations can be finalized. Additionally, a name submission and a covering certificate must be received by the Stud Book.
• Name applications: Only done online via the name reservation system on the NHA website. The adjudication process takes approximately 3 to 5 working days.
• Covering certificates: Issued online by stallion managers, with copies sent to mare owners. They do not need to be sent to the Stud Book as they are received electronically.
