The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Durban on 3 January 2021, Jockey Sean Veale was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop).  The particulars being that he struck the horse CUPID’S SONG more than 12 times in race 3, run at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse, on 30 December 2020.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Durban on 7 December 2020, Jockey Calvin Habib was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of  IMPERIAL SEAL, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to AIR BUZZ when shifting inwards in the concluding stages of Race 1, run at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 21 September 2020.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on 30 November 2020, Jockey Lyle Hewitson was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7. The particulars of the charge being, that as the rider of MATTERHORN, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to ANSE LAZIO (AUS) at the 100m in Race 6 at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 25 October 2020.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at its offices in Cape Town on 11 June 2019 which was concluded on 21 November 2020, Trainer Mr G Kotzen  was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.4.  The particulars being that he was the Trainer and the person responsible for HERODOTUS, which ran in and won the 6th race at Kenilworth Racecourse on 30 October 2018.  A urine specimen which was taken from this horse disclosed, upon analysis, the presence of O-Desmethyltramadol  which is a prohibited substance in terms of the Rules of the NHA.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Port Elizabeth on 19 November 2020, Trainer Ms M L Turner was required to answer to two separate charges relating to contraventions of the Rules of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at its offices in Cape Town on 12 November 2020 which was adjourned from 30 September 2020, Trainer Mr A N Marcus  was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.4.  The particulars being that he was the Trainer and the person responsible for HELLO WINTER HELLO, which ran in and won the 7th race at Kenilworth Racecourse on 25 January 2020.  A urine specimen which was taken from this horse disclosed, upon analysis, the presence of Flunixin which is a prohibited substance in terms of the Rules of the NHA.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in the Stipendiary Stewards’ Boardroom in Durban on 8 November 2020, Jockey Anton Marcus was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of VALIENTE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to CAPTAINS FORT, leaving the 150m in Race 8, run at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 7 October 2020.
