The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 14 November 2023, Jockey M Yeni was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of STRIKING ANGEL, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to MAMAQUERA (P Mxoli) when he shifted out, in the concluding stages of Race 8 at Turffontein Racecourse on 2 November 2023.

Jockey Yeni pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after having considered the evidence presented, found that Jockey Yeni was a contributing source to the substantial interference in the incident. Consequently, a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days was imposed.

Jockey Yeni was given the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
