The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on Thursday, 21 September 2023, Jockey A Mgudlwa was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read with Guideline M in Appendix E on the use of the crop.  The particulars being that he misused his crop by striking VIBE SA more than twelve times (16) when there were no acceptable reasons which warranted such action, during Race 2 at Hollywoodbets Scottsville Racecourse on 23 August 2023.

Jockey Mgudlwa pleaded guilty and was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board after considering the evidence and mitigating factors, as well as taking into account that this was Mr Mgudlwa’s first offence pertaining to this type of contravention, imposed a penalty of a fine of R10 000.

Jockey Mgudlwa was given the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
