The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa (NHA) confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on 21 July 2025, Jockey G Lerena, who attended the proceedings virtually, was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7. The particulars being that as the Rider of SEEKING THE STARS, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to FUTURE VARIETY and QUESTIONING when he shifted in at the 100m during Race 8 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse on 22 February 2025.

Jockey Lerena pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the charge.

After considering the evidence, mitigating factors, his previous record relating to this type of contravention and the status of the race, the Inquiry Board imposed the penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of ten (10) days.

Jockey Lerena has the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
