INQUIRY – JOCKEY J GATES

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Johannesburg, on 5 April 2024, Jockey J Gates was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that he, whilst riding MANDALAY, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to CERULEAN DANCER (M Yeni) at the 350m in Race 9 at the Vaal Racecourse on 19 March 2024.  

Jockey Gates pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the charge. 

The Inquiry Board, after considering the mitigating factors presented and Jockey Gates’ record regarding causing interference in races, imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of ten (10) days. 

Jockey Gates was given the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
