The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on Thursday, 25 January 2024, Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7. The particulars being that whilst riding EPIKLEROS, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners when he shifted outwards from the 200m in Race 6 on 13 January 2024 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse.
Jockey G van Niekerk pleaded guilty and was found guilty of the charge.
The Inquiry Board, after considering the mitigating factors presented and Jockey van Niekerk’s riding record, ruled that he be suspended from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days.
Jockey van Niekerk was given the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
