The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on Thursday, 25 January 2024, Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7. The particulars being that whilst riding FOUR JACKS, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference when he shifted out from the 300m and made contact with HELIOTROPE at the 200m in Race 5 on 15 January 2024 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse.
Jockey G van Niekerk pleaded guilty and was found guilty of the charge.
The Inquiry Board, after considering the mitigating factors presented, and Jockey van Niekerk’s riding record, ruled that he be suspended from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days.
Jockey G van Niekerk was given the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
