HANDICAPPING RATINGS UPDATE

  • Kuda Variety Club Mile (Grade 3)

Unbeaten KATAK has had his merit rating raised from 84 to 99 after he demolished his opposition to win the Grade 3 Variety Club Mile for three-year-olds over 1600m at Kenilworth on Tuesday 9 June.  This is the race which was formerly known as the Winter Guineas.  The Handicappers decided that the best line horse to use was 5th placed BAG OF TRICKS to a net rating of 82, which he had achieved twice already, and by doing this it was possible to drop BAG OF TRICKS’ rating from 92 to 90.

Runner-up ARCTIC DRIFT was raised from 81 to 86, while 3rd placed CAPTAIN FLINDERS was picked up from 83 to 85.  There were no other increases, but there were a number of drops in addition to BAG OF TRICKSCANE LIME ‘N SODA is down from 98 to 94, BAYBERRY is down from 83 to 81, GOLD MEDAL drops from 83 to 80, TILLIEANGUS goes to 81 from 83, and lastly HURRICANE HARRY was trimmed from 87 to 86.

  • Kuda Sweet Chestnut Stakes (Listed)

SING OUT LOUD has had her ratting raised from 90 to 98 after her fluent success in the Listed Sweet Chestnut Stakes for three-year-old fillies over 1600m at Kenilworth on Tuesday.  Runner-up PHIL’S DANCER had every chance after making most of the running and was deemed to be the most suitable line horse, which means that her rating remains as is on 93.

The only other increase was for third placed BOLD DIVA, who is up from 81 to 83.  Three fillies had their ratings dropped.  QUICKSTEP LADY is down from 86 to 85, FLAME TREE goes from 96 to 94, and lastly DRAMA QUEEN drops from 102 to 98.
